The recovery process is usually uncomplicated. You will have some swelling in the area which will go away within 1-2 weeks. Patients are advised to abstain from sexual activity for 2 to 3 weeks or until the final healing occurs. There are usually no sutures that need to be removed. With time the scar becomes practically invisible even on a very close examination. The sensation of the inner lips gets enhanced due to reduction of extra skin/mucosa. Right after the operation you may experience some pain associated with the surgery which is usually controlled well with pain medications. Upon discharge you will have prescriptions for pain medication that you will take as needed, and antibiotics that you will need to take for several days to decrease chances of infection. While complications are rare, Dr. Rayham will discuss the risks of your procedure with you prior to proceeding with surgery. If is important to be well-informed ahead of time. If you live in New York or nearby you can go home the day of your labiaplasty surgery. Our out of town patients normally stay overnight in one of our recommended hotels and can drive or fly home the next day following their postoperative check-up with Dr. Rayham.
