Q: How is Obagi Blue Peel Performed?

Plastic Surgeon Dr. Rayham performs Obagi Blue peel in his offices in Manhattan/NYC, Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York. Prior to your procedure, any active skin disease, infection, or acne needs to be addressed and controlled in order to maximize your results.

The Obagi Blue Peel is a quick and simple procedure that does not typically require sedation. The choice of the solution and the precise formula used depends mainly on the extent of preexisting skin damage, skin color, and desired result. During the procedure, the skin is first cleansed of oils. A solution is then carefully applied and is allowed to remain on the skin for about 20 minutes, depending on the number of coats applied. You can expect a burning sensation that lasts only a few minutes and a bluish tint to you skin. The skin is then neutralized and cleansed. Finally, an ointment is applied to the skin to help with healing. The bluish hue usually washes off in 12 to 24 hours.

Q: What Should I Anticipate After the Procedure?

The peel may cause some swelling. You may experience slight discomfort at the treated areas which can be addressed with pain medication. The discomfort and mild swelling will subside within the first week. Within two to three days, your skin will begin to peel. This peeling continues over the next several days. By the seventh to tenth day, your skin should be healed and start looking younger and healthier.

Once the skin has completely recovered and is finished peeling, you will notice a visible improvement in its’ complexion. Your skin`s appearance will continue to improve for the next four to six weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier and more youthful looking. At this point you should be healed sufficiently to return to your normal activities and start wearing make-up. Avoiding sun exposure during healing period is essential. Protecting your skin from the sun with adequate UVA and UVB blocks is important if you have to be outside following these peels.
