Fat Transfer

Before After

Q: What’s a Fat Transfer Procedure?

Fat Transfer, also known as fat injections, plumps up facial features with a patient’s own fat and is a popular alternative to other wrinkle treatments. Fat transfer to the face is a safe, natural, non-allergenic procedure designed to recontour your face and can provide definition to your cheeks and chin. It also can be used to correct facial deformities

Q: Why Should I Consider a Fat Transfer Procedure?

  • To restore volume or enhance your facial areas that appear creased and sunken.
  • To receive a more permanent correction, than what is provided by temporary fillers.
  • To achieve a more youthful appearance.

Q: How is Fat Transfer Performed?

Dr. Rayham performs Fat Transfer procedures in his offices Brooklyn or New York. This procedure generally lasts from one to five hours. The operation is done under local anesthesia with twilight sedation.

The first step in the fat transfer process is the removal of fat tissue via a procedure known as liposuction. Both the area from which the fat is taken and the treatment site are anesthetized with local anesthetic. Entry points are made to insert a narrow tube called a cannula directly into fat pockets. The cannula gently loosens and removes fat cells.

The fat is then purified to prepare it for injection. Injections are strategically placed in different layers and different parts of the body and face to achieve the desired results. There are no incisions needed to perform this part of the treatment.

Q: What Should I Anticipate After the Procedure?

Patients are up and around immediately following fat injections. Right after the operation you may experience some pain associated with the surgery, which can be controlled with medication. Some swelling and bruising at the treatment site may occur. Upon discharge you will have prescriptions for pain medication that you will take as needed, and antibiotics that you will need to take for several days to decrease chances of infection. There are usually no sutures that need to be removed. While complications are rare, Dr. Rayham will discuss the risks of your procedure with you prior to proceeding with surgery. If is important to be well informed ahead of time. You can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions given to you after surgery.

Q: Am I a Candidate for Fat Transfer?

You may be a candidate for fat transfer if you have any of the above concerns and if you are in overall good health to undergo an operation. Click here if you’d like to email Dr. Rayham with a question or a concern.
